Pokemon Inspired MOTD

So Pokemon came out on Saturday, and you best believe I was at the midnight release with my boyfriend right beside me on Friday. But to celebrate the occassion I decided to do a look that took elements from my soon to be starter Pokemon, Fennekin. And here are the results!

All I used for this look was my Burning Heart palette from Sugarpill (which I should have a review up for by Wednesday or Friday) and the shades Handwritten and Arena from MAC for my crease and highlight.  Over all I'm pretty satisfied with it! Though Charmander can also come to mind looking at it...or that could just be me. Who knows.

So My Wallet Hates Me: MAC Edition

So I got my school refund check (left over grant and scholarship money) and used it to go shopping for a few things. A new iPad, that I'm typing this on and loving, a pair of Beats (expensive @$$ headphones my brother has been asking for for three years), some stuff for my mom, some stuff for my step sister, and I'm doing some shopping for my step dad and step brother for Christmas as well. But I also used the money to help me finish (well for now) my makeup collection. So a big part of this was creating a neutrals palette of MAC shadows that work for darker skinned ladies. I bought the following:

~ Handwritten
~ Melon (Pigment)
~ Patina
~ Cranberry
~ Era
~ Mulch
~ Woodwinked
~ Amber Lights
~ Swiss Chocolate
~ Ricepaper
~ Satin Taupe
~ Expensive Pink
~ Bronze

I also acquired the 239, 224, 217, 219, and 275 brushes, aka my first MAC brushes ever.

All and all I'm pretty excited to use this stuff. I don't think I'm going to be able to swatch everything all at once, so I think I may do two or three things at a time and see how it goes. I also pretty much bought everything but the Neon Pigments from Sugarpill and a few things from Sephora, but all that will get it's own post at some point this or next week.

Until then, have a blessed day!

Fall Wish List 2013

I've got wine taste on a beer budget...Or actually, no, I've got a wine budget because I've got a check coming. :D So this is my wish list for Fall 2013 for makeup! This isn't counting anything I want from Sugarpill because well...I'm buying out the rest of their stuff that I don't already have, aside from the neon pigments...Question is where in the world I'm putting all this stuff....

1. Canon T4i Camera [Body Only] - $499 - So I've been itching for a new DSLR for awhile now. Particularly one that has a flip out screen to make recording videos super easy. So after doing a little bit of research I decided on the T4i from Canon. I already have the some lenses for it, I'm familiar with Canon's, and well, I don' want to spend the money on much more right now until I start doing more with my photography...

2. Sephora Eye Pencils in Beige and Gold - $14 each - So I need these for a birthday look I'm planning on doing next month. I've never tired Sephora Eye Pencil's before so this will be interesting....But I hope I'm not disappointed! The look I'm planning on doing can be seen here

3. Sephora by OPI Gel Kit and Just a Little Dangerous Polish - $159 for Kit. $17.50 for polish - My nails have some kind of magic anti polish force field around  them that makes it impossible for polish to stay on for more then well, a couple of hours without chipping. My cuticles aren't bad, my nails are smooth, I don't know what it is...So this is essentially to see if this is my magic end all be all solution.

4. Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray - $29 for 4 oz - I love this stuff! I bought a tiny bottle off of Haute Look and it didn't last me long. So I decided I want to go ahead and buy the big bottle of it so it'll last me for awhile.

5. Beauty Blender Duo Set - $40 - So I bough the Beauty Blender like a week ago and I think someone threw it away. -_- I used it once and I haven't been able to find it since! So I'm ordering a set this time. That way if one magically 'disappears' I have a backup. And getting the cleaner seems pretty important to.

6. Smashbox Halo Powder - $59 - So I got this in that Try It kit I got for the BB cream. Not to fond of the BB cream, and I should probably post a review on that, but I LOVE this powder. Oh my goodness. It makes such a difference in my over all look. The price is a little steep, but my goodness is it worth it.

7. Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2 - $59 - Great value, pretty colors, and I want to put more color on my waterline so why not? I love their lips pencils so much, so I'm hoping the eye pencils don't disappoint.

8. Smashbox Photofinish Primer - $36 for 1 oz -  I've only had samples of this stuff so far but I love it! So might as well buy the full version. Again, one of those things I should probably post a review on...

9. Sephora Train Case - $110 - I need a new train case. One this expensive? No, but I've heard good things about this case and it's really big, from what I've seen, so I'm hoping it works for me because I've got a lot of stuff and no space.

Took a trip to Sephora today...

So I took a trip to Sephora today. I was trying to just browse around buuut that obviously didn't happen. I ended up buying a new tube of my favorite mascara and then something new, Smashbox's Try It Kit for the halo and BB cream. Now I have no idea what the halo is (setting powder maybe?) but I have been wanting to try the BB cream for awhile now and seeing how this was only $29 and came with a sample primer (and I have grown to love their primer) I went ahead and snatched it up.

I'm debating on if I want to go ahead and use this today or wait until work tomorrow as it's a little late in the day to be applying a full face of makeup (to me anyway).

But a review shall be up on it, and maybe on YouTube, by the end of the week pending I have no computer troubles (which may be the hardest part) and I find my camera charger....

Off of hiatus!

Though I never fully announced I was taking one...oops.

Anyway, I've had a loooonger summer. And it got depressing so I disattatched myself from a lot of media. My Facebook, YouTube, Beautylish...Yeah. But I'm trying to get back on my feet and work through everything that's happened. It mostly working on my emotions as I've had a lot happen and it's taken a toll on my family and I quite a bit.

So yeah...my goal is to post 3 articles a week, I'm gonna restart my 30 Day Makeup Challenge, start swatching and showing off palettes, posting more looks, and over all being a lot more active here, on YouTube, and Beautylish.

So hopefully this reboot goes well. I'm gonna start on a super clean slate on Sunday as its the 1st. :D

Heading off to college? Some helpful advice.

Heading off to college? Some helpful advice.

I was super excited my freshman year of college, I was away from home for the very first time, new people, new place, and it was going to be a whole new experience. Now I didn’t stay at my first school due to personal choice and transferred out, but I’m still glad that I went as from the experience I gained nuggets of knowledge that I was able to pass along to my friend still in high school. Some are silly, others are a bit more serious, but helpful in the end! I decided seeing how August is coming about it would be wise to go ahead and share these nuggets with the people of the interwebs.

1.       Bring extra clothes hangers
·         This probably sounds super random, but I cannot tell you just how many clothes hangers I gave out throughout the year. I just brought extra for good measure, but I ended up giving a good ¾ of the packs I bought away because people needed them so badly.
2.       NEVER BUY YOUR BOOKS FROM THE BOOK STORE
·          I cannot stress this enough. A lot of freshman think that they have to get their books for that first year from the bookstore. No, this is a lie. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT do it. The bookstore over charges and rips students off for books horribly, doesn’t matter what school you attend. There are PLENTY of online resources to help the book buying process be cheaper and easier.

·         My absolute all time favorite website for textbooks is slugbooks.com. You put in the book ISBN and it pulls a list of whos selling, renting, and has e-books for the books and for what prices. The sellers include Amazon, eBay, chegg, and many many more. My book for child psychology is $180 at the bookstore. I got it for $12 using slugbooks.

·         If your class has a bundle pack for the books you can email the teacher and ask for the ISBN’s for all the different books and enter them in that way, I have yet to have a teacher that hasn’t given it to me.

3.       NEVER SELL YOUR BOOKS TO THE BOOKSTORE
·         That same book you buy from them for $180 they will try to give you $35 for. Don’t do it. Use Half.com’s textbook buy back or even Amazon, but DO NOT go to the bookstore. Heck, see if another student will buy it from you, which leads me to my next point.
4.       If your school has a student facebook group, join it.
·         When I was at ODU someone had a group called ODU Freshman and a lot of freshman joined, as well as upperclassmen. Advise was given here about teachers, text books, people could ask for help, parties were posted, rides were found, over all it was really helpful. Students often sold and bought books over the page when they were done with them. So while you may not be  the social networking type, it’s something to consider.
5.       Ratemyprofessor.com can be your best friend
·         Seriously. The website has a list of teachers based off of school and rates them on how good or bad they are. So if you need to have a really good math teacher (like me because I suck at math) or want a challenging literature teacher this website will tell you who’s wonderful and who kicks rocks. It also gives a hotness rating for the teacher. If you’re into that sort of thing.
6.       The clinic always has free condoms
·         Or at least at most schools. And I know this may seem like a random point, but a lot of girls and guys don’t know this and it is IMPORTANT.  There is no point in putting yourself out there and risking pregnancy and diseases when you don’t have to. And if the guy tries to tell you ‘Oh I don’t have one’ you better tell him to go get one or pull one out of a drawer somewhere. My boyfriend was 3 hours away, but I kept condoms in my drawer for when he did visit just in case. It is better to be safe than sorry. By no means am I trying to promote sex here, but I’m saying if you are going to do it be safe AND smart about it.
7.       See what your school has to offer for transportation
·         If we went to the student transportation office (or what ever it was called) at ODU and showed them our student ID we would receive a green transportation pass. With it we could catch the bus, ferry, and rail system for free. Now it didn’t include Amtrack or anything, but it was enough to get it from one place to another and venture out to explore. Now not every school offers this, but it doesn’t hurt to see if it does.
8.       Don’t be afraid to check out the clubs
·         It is very easy to feel lonely if you aren’t on a sports team or you’re from out of the area. And if you’re an introvert? The difficulty level just went up by like 100. Because a lot of people already have pre-formed friendships and cliques that can easily make any newcomer feel left out, but clubs can be a great help. I attended the anime club when I went to ODU, loathed the way it was ran but I did meet two super good friends there that one of which I still talk to even though I’m back in Northern VA. Clubs can be a great way to meet new people and try new things, so don’t be afraid to attend one!
9.       Don’t be afraid to try new things, but stay true to yourself
·         College is when you get out and learn who you are, but don’t let it change who you are. Don’t jeopardize your morals and what you believe in for other people, ever. If my roommate did something I didn’t like or didn’t want to be mixed up in, I just left. I will not be guilty association for anybody. Nor will I be just plain guilty for doing something I shouldn’t have been doing and wouldn’t normally do in the first place.
10.   Call home

·         If you have a good relationship with your parents or whoever you live with (and I do mean if), call home, especially if you’re homesick. It’s ok to miss home or the sound of your moms voice, chances are thy miss you to. But again, this is a big IF. I called my mom every week and she called me, but I never called my dad at all nor did he call me and I was a-ok with that.

Mortal Kombat Inspired Look

Collage made by Crisel D on Beautylish
So on Beautylish a few ladies came up with the idea to do makeup challenges as it's been rather dead up there lately. Carmela C came up with the idea, or she was the first one to post anyway, doing makeup challenges. The first one? Mortal Kombat! The idea was to do makeup and cosplay (or costume for those unfamiliar with cosplay) but some of us did just the makeup only (like me!)

Carmela C did the first look, Paige M did the second look, Velen did Syndel, Crisel D did Tanya, I'm unsure who did Scorpin, and I attempted to do Jade from the series.
I'm a little mad as I reallllllllly wanted to do a gold eyeliner with this to get the gold in her mask and outfit but I didn't have any nor could I find my MAC Fix+ spray to try and make some. (ノಠ益ಠ)ノBut all and all I'm happy with the look for what I had to work with. I used my Coastal Scents 252 Palette for all of the colors in the look and my Hard Candy Eyeliner.

29 Days of Lipstick .:. Day 4

I look so tired...But I was having a morning so, ugh. Anyway! This is another Tarte color called Plummy Rose.

So this reminds me a lot of the other Tarte shade I posted, Graceful I think but I could be wrong, but a bit cooler toned so it fits my skin more without the assistance of lip liner. The pictures above are in natural light, here's one in a less well let setting.

Still pretty! Even with my bored looking face (I'm on break writing this). Like my other Tarte lipstick it goes on VERY smoothly. There is no pull, no tug, nada. And it just feels nice and smooth on, can't beat that. Plus it smells like peppermint! I love peppermint. :D I just don't know why it smells like peppermint seeing how the only other Tarte lipstick I have doesn't. Maybe because this one came in a set? Dunno. But the pigmentation is fairly good and it lasts for quite awhile. I've had it on for 6 hours already and just reapplied after I ate. I definitely recommend it!

Pros:
Pretty tube (Im a sucker for that)
Great smell!
Smooth application
Silky feeling
Nice color pigmentation

Cons:
Not sure if its a regular offered color (As mine came in a gift set of stuff)

June Ipsy Glam Bag

Finally uploading it. >.>

Ipsy June Glam Bag
So I've been meaning to put this up since I got it, but better late then never right? But this is what I received in my Ipsy bag this month. For those of you who don't know, Ipsy is a monthly beauty bag service where you receive 4-5 full sized items in a cute little bag for $10, no tax and no shipping charges, per month. When people ask is it worth it I can't help but to tell them yes. The bag is always worth more then $10, so why not go ahead and get it? Plus it's just fun! To get a little surprise every month for a cheap price? Who could pass that up? Or it could just be the fact I like receiving packages...Who knows...Anyway, on to some more pictures of what I received in the bag followed by a few comments and reviews!

Sparking cream palette aka glitter

Eyelashes

Blush and eyeliner

So to start let's dooo my least favorite product, the J Cat Glitter cream. I just don't like glitter honestly, or well no, that's not true. I don't like body glitter. I don't go anywhere where I would use it. I guess it's something that I would use for my younger cousins as they love this kind of stuff, but for me myself? Nope. It doesn't serve a purpose.

Yeah that's glitter, gritty feeling glitter.

Another J Cat product I received were eyelashes and eyelash glue. I've never used either before. They look pretty though! Sad that that's all I can say about them. When I get my circle lenses I'll be doing a makeup look with them that some ladies recommended flash eyelashes for to complete the look so I'll test these out then. But until that moment they'll just sit prettily in my train case.

Those are eyelashes...Yeah

So I've never mentioned any NYX products on my blog, but I do like them a lot. They're cheap, nicely pigmented, and my goodness if their jumbo eye pencils don't make for some of the most awesome eye shadow bases ever! But in this bag I received the NYX Blush in Silkly Rose. Just like it's name it's a pretty rose colored pink. It goes on easily enough, and doesn't look to bad against my skin. I feel bad for not swatching it on my face but I had already gone through my nightly face routine before taking these pics so that just wasn't happening.

You can't even really see it here, but I tried. >.>
I received a lip pencil in last months bag but hey, I don't mind getting another one! This month it's Starlooks lip pencil in Tipsy. It went on really smoothly against my skin and the color showed up very well. It's a coral kind of color, or at least it reminds me of a mix of a pink with a litttttttle tiny bit of an orange undertone. Kinda. Eh, we'll just say it's pink.

Last but not least is the Cailyn Gel Liner in Iron. I've never had any color of liquid eye liner but black, but I must say I'm digging the silver! The liner goes on nice and smoothly, and the packaging is clever! The little handle part is a brush itself so as long as you carry the whole thing you'll always have something to put your eyeliner on with. The little bow is mine as I needed something to keep this thing from rolling while I took the pictured.

29 Days of Lipstick - Day 3

Natural lighting, yay!

So, in my quest to  find lipstick colors what would work on me a lot of people recommended trying out corals. Well, this was bought in that attempt. So for day we have Revlon's Coral Berry.

I was originally unsure about this lipstick the first time I tried it on. I hadn't primed my lips or anything but it was showing up super sheeny (if that's a word). Now I like my lipsticks to have a little bit of a shine, but it was super duper shiny! But I pulled it from TV bag today, skipped the primer and exfoliated my lips, and went ahead a put it on. Boy did it make a difference! It still has a bit of a shiny finish, but not overly so. The color also came out better (before it was almost orange looking), looking like a nice standard coral. It doesn't pull or tug on my lips, and its not drying at all. It goes on smoothly and its not super bold pigmented, and as much as I like bold and colorful, having something soft once in awhile is good to.

Pros:
Cheap ($7 at Ulta)
Doesn't pull
Nice color payoff

Cons
Have to be careful about application or it can turn out all wrong!

I got some new goodies in the mail today

I can't wait to swatch and play. :D I'll post those pictures later on, along with my Ipsy pictures that I've yet to post.

29 Days of Lipstick - Day 2

Not the best picture of me, but it gets the job done.

So I'm detangling my hair so excuse the face! Buuuut day 2, technically day 3 but yesterday was hectic, is of a product that I never was going to include in this. Not because its not pretty, but because its a lipgloss!  Love the color so much I had to put it in here.

So for day 2 I'm doing NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Plush Red, and boy is it red! It reminds me of my Riri Woo, so I'll chalk it up as being a blue tone red. It's gorgeous color wise, well pigmented (what's on my lip has only been applied once, that's it) and smells super sweet! Kinda like cherries mixed with something else, just don't know what. Goes on smoothly, moisturizing, and I'm pretty sure it was under $7 so that's always a plus. Great for girls who want to try out something red on their lips that's inexpensive and pigmented.

My only ONLY complaint is that it doesn't last all that long. But then again I work with children and I do a lot of cheek kissing and having stuff hit my face so that could be why. But it left a pretty stain color that didn't make me look too crazy.

Pros:
- Pigmented
- Smells nice
- Cheap

Cons:
- Not great longevity wise

29 Days of Lipstick

29 Days of Lipstick

So I decided I want to do something 'fun', all depending on how you describe fun I suppose, and do 29 Days of Lipstick, aka, me posting color swatches/wearing the 29 different shades of lipstick that I own every day. It should be 30 but I can't find one tube....Oh well. But I figured out it would be a great reference for me or someone else who likes these colors or looking for colors to wear. So it sounds like a lot of work so far but I'm hoping it's fun! Or at the very least, informative. I waasss going to post the color list of evreything I'm going to do, but that's no fun! So it'll be a surprise instead. I shall start the posting tomorrow!

Anyone else have a hard time smiling?

This is me trying

I meant to post this yesterday as a part of No Makeup Monday, but it turned into something else.

So I know a smile can be what ties a look together no matter what the occasion or outfit, but I just can't do it. When I want to smile for a picture or take a selfie my face looks...well, weird. It turns into this tight liped, no teeth showing, looks like I may be plotting something against you in my head type of smile. See?

I'm plotting

Still plotting on you and kinda judging you t the same time

I know what's in that cookie jar

And it bothers me so much because I want to smile. I've been told I have a very pretty smile when I genuinely do it. I just don't know how to make that smile come at will. Part of me thinks I should stop trying to hard but then I wouldn't know how to even start, hell, I really don't even know how to start trying now. >.> I know some people say practice in the mirror but when I do that I stop because I look at myself and go "...Nope." ;_; There has got to be some way to do this! I just have no clue how. But I will figure it out eventually, this I swear!

Dupe Alert! MAC Girl About Town vs Covergirl Spellbound

Man I look super light in this picture

Dupe Alert!
Original: MAC Girl About Town (Bottom lip) - $14.40 at MAC
Dupe: Covergirl Spellbound (Top lip) - $4.98 at Walmart
I was looking for a dupe for MAC’s Wonder Woman shade Spitfire and someone said that Spellboud by Covergirl was a dead on dupe, saw pictures and it really did look like it. So I bought it, tried it on, and then thought it looked similar to the Girl About Town shade I had purchased recently. So put that on and well, the colors are pretty much exactly the same! There is no telling the difference. Which is good for when I run out of Girl About Town and don’t feel like spending $10+ on makeup, but bad because I wish I had bought another Covergirl shade to play with. ;_; Ah well, now I know!

Remember ladies, no one is perfect

Credit for these images goes to: http://thechurchofcelebrity.tumblr.com

So I ran across this today on tumblr and felt the need to share.

I see so many women of different ages saying how they envy stars for their beauty, hate parts of their own body because someone else looks so perfect, etc, etc. But really it's unnecessary. No one is perfect, ESPECIALLY not the women you see on TV, in movies, and in magazines. They've been made over by professional makeup artist, photoshopped, wearing undergarments that make you look a size or two smaller (long bras and spanks ladies), and who knows what else. These women that others hold on such a high pedestal are no different from you and I really. And while that may take some of the magic away from them, I think it's an important thing to keep in mind. Don't hate yourself because of how you think someone else looks. Love and cherish what you've got. After all, you're beautiful. <3

Girls Night Out Makeup Tutorial

(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ Watch in HD please!

So my first attempt at a tutorial! So I'm sorry if the camera and lighting is a bit weird, first time using my Canon to try to record. @_@ Was also trying to use natural light on a cloudy day, that's a no no I guess.

Looking back on this look I'm not 100% that fond if it, as I've improved it in like the last week....or well, kinda. So there will probably be a redo of this, but not for awhile.

Twist out attempt!

From this
To this!

So I haven't had a chance to mention this yet but obviously, or maybe not so obviously, I'm a natural girl. A recent natural girl for that matter. For those of you that don't know what that means 'natural' or 'going natural' is when a girl doesn't use chemical straighteners on her hair, aka perms or relaxers. It's something that's becoming more and more prevalent in the black community because a lot of girls don't know what thier natural hair texture is or what our hair texture is like. I sure as heck didn't. Because you see, my hair use to be like this:
And I miss it, but I like my new do. There's a bunch more I can say about the topic buuuut that's not what this post is about. This post is about my twist out attempt!

I attempted to do a twist out on my hair, and it's the first thing I've actually tried to do with my hair since I chopped it all off a week ago [maybe I should post that video...]. It took about an hour to twist my whole head and I let it dry over night and then some. All I used was my leave in conditioner [Giovanni Direct Leave in], an oil mixture, Ms.Jessie's Curly Meringue, and some Lotta Body. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I like it! It's a little on the frizzy side, but its still cute. Some of the curls are super defined while others could use a little work, but over all it's definitely wearable. I think I'm going to try a different styling gel next time to see if I can get the curls to come out a littttle better. But if not, then it won't kill me to rock this.

I have no idea what I'm doing

I think I start off every blog/tumblr/what ever with that sentence...But it's true, I have no idea what I'm doing. But this is going to be a place for my makeup, hair, and fashion reviews, rantings, and so on and so forth. I am not a makeup guru, nor will I ever claim to be one. I'm just a girl who really, realllllly likes make up and has a bit to much time on her hands. So yeah...I'm not going to make this to terribly long as it doesn't need to be and that was pretty much the jist of everything.

So welcome to my blog and I hope you enjoy as you look around!

MAC Everyday Diva Review

So I went into MAC a few days ago looking to do an exchange for some colors that I got and didn’t work so well with my skin (Snob, Pink Noveau, and something else….). I picked up this shade (Everyday Diva), Girl About Town, and I wanna say The Amp (can’t exactly recall at the moment) and I’m glad I did.

It is most definitely an out there ‘pop in your face’ warm tone red. Lighter then their shade Cockney (which I’m in love with and mad ‘cause I can’t remember where I put the tube!) and considerably lighter then their other cool tone counterpart red mineralize lipstick Lush Life.  Although it is lighter then I normally wear in the red department it didn’t look a hot mess on my skin tone (in my opinion).

The pigmentation of this shade is awesome, it did act as a little bit of a lip stain though, which I’m ok with. It applied on super easy as well and my lips felt great with it on. While I do like MAC’s matte lipsticks I don’t like how try they feel without a lip primer. It could be because I’m just transitioning over from lipgloss or something, but the regular colors feel dry and a little off to me. The mineralize shades on the other hand left my lips feeling great the entire time it was on. Now I did have to reapply after lunch time (I put it on at about 8 and had lunch at 1) and even if I hadn’t reapplied it still didn’t look all that bad.
Over all I really love this lipstick and will buy it again once my tube runs out, but that can take awhile.
