Pokemon Inspired MOTD

So Pokemon came out on Saturday, and you best believe I was at the midnight release with my boyfriend right beside me on Friday. But to celebrate the occassion I decided to do a look that took elements from my soon to be starter Pokemon, Fennekin. And here are the results!

All I used for this look was my Burning Heart palette from Sugarpill (which I should have a review up for by Wednesday or Friday) and the shades Handwritten and Arena from MAC for my crease and highlight.  Over all I'm pretty satisfied with it! Though Charmander can also come to mind looking at it...or that could just be me. Who knows.

So My Wallet Hates Me: MAC Edition

So I got my school refund check (left over grant and scholarship money) and used it to go shopping for a few things. A new iPad, that I'm typing this on and loving, a pair of Beats (expensive @$$ headphones my brother has been asking for for three years), some stuff for my mom, some stuff for my step sister, and I'm doing some shopping for my step dad and step brother for Christmas as well. But I also used the money to help me finish (well for now) my makeup collection. So a big part of this was creating a neutrals palette of MAC shadows that work for darker skinned ladies. I bought the following:

~ Handwritten
~ Melon (Pigment)
~ Patina
~ Cranberry
~ Era
~ Mulch
~ Woodwinked
~ Amber Lights
~ Swiss Chocolate
~ Ricepaper
~ Satin Taupe
~ Expensive Pink
~ Bronze

I also acquired the 239, 224, 217, 219, and 275 brushes, aka my first MAC brushes ever.

All and all I'm pretty excited to use this stuff. I don't think I'm going to be able to swatch everything all at once, so I think I may do two or three things at a time and see how it goes. I also pretty much bought everything but the Neon Pigments from Sugarpill and a few things from Sephora, but all that will get it's own post at some point this or next week.

Until then, have a blessed day!

Fall Wish List 2013

I've got wine taste on a beer budget...Or actually, no, I've got a wine budget because I've got a check coming. :D So this is my wish list for Fall 2013 for makeup! This isn't counting anything I want from Sugarpill because well...I'm buying out the rest of their stuff that I don't already have, aside from the neon pigments...Question is where in the world I'm putting all this stuff....

1. Canon T4i Camera [Body Only] - $499 - So I've been itching for a new DSLR for awhile now. Particularly one that has a flip out screen to make recording videos super easy. So after doing a little bit of research I decided on the T4i from Canon. I already have the some lenses for it, I'm familiar with Canon's, and well, I don' want to spend the money on much more right now until I start doing more with my photography...

2. Sephora Eye Pencils in Beige and Gold - $14 each - So I need these for a birthday look I'm planning on doing next month. I've never tired Sephora Eye Pencil's before so this will be interesting....But I hope I'm not disappointed! The look I'm planning on doing can be seen here

3. Sephora by OPI Gel Kit and Just a Little Dangerous Polish - $159 for Kit. $17.50 for polish - My nails have some kind of magic anti polish force field around  them that makes it impossible for polish to stay on for more then well, a couple of hours without chipping. My cuticles aren't bad, my nails are smooth, I don't know what it is...So this is essentially to see if this is my magic end all be all solution.

4. Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray - $29 for 4 oz - I love this stuff! I bought a tiny bottle off of Haute Look and it didn't last me long. So I decided I want to go ahead and buy the big bottle of it so it'll last me for awhile.

5. Beauty Blender Duo Set - $40 - So I bough the Beauty Blender like a week ago and I think someone threw it away. -_- I used it once and I haven't been able to find it since! So I'm ordering a set this time. That way if one magically 'disappears' I have a backup. And getting the cleaner seems pretty important to.

6. Smashbox Halo Powder - $59 - So I got this in that Try It kit I got for the BB cream. Not to fond of the BB cream, and I should probably post a review on that, but I LOVE this powder. Oh my goodness. It makes such a difference in my over all look. The price is a little steep, but my goodness is it worth it.

7. Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2 - $59 - Great value, pretty colors, and I want to put more color on my waterline so why not? I love their lips pencils so much, so I'm hoping the eye pencils don't disappoint.

8. Smashbox Photofinish Primer - $36 for 1 oz -  I've only had samples of this stuff so far but I love it! So might as well buy the full version. Again, one of those things I should probably post a review on...

9. Sephora Train Case - $110 - I need a new train case. One this expensive? No, but I've heard good things about this case and it's really big, from what I've seen, so I'm hoping it works for me because I've got a lot of stuff and no space.

Took a trip to Sephora today...

So I took a trip to Sephora today. I was trying to just browse around buuut that obviously didn't happen. I ended up buying a new tube of my favorite mascara and then something new, Smashbox's Try It Kit for the halo and BB cream. Now I have no idea what the halo is (setting powder maybe?) but I have been wanting to try the BB cream for awhile now and seeing how this was only $29 and came with a sample primer (and I have grown to love their primer) I went ahead and snatched it up.

I'm debating on if I want to go ahead and use this today or wait until work tomorrow as it's a little late in the day to be applying a full face of makeup (to me anyway).

But a review shall be up on it, and maybe on YouTube, by the end of the week pending I have no computer troubles (which may be the hardest part) and I find my camera charger....

Off of hiatus!

Though I never fully announced I was taking one...oops.

Anyway, I've had a loooonger summer. And it got depressing so I disattatched myself from a lot of media. My Facebook, YouTube, Beautylish...Yeah. But I'm trying to get back on my feet and work through everything that's happened. It mostly working on my emotions as I've had a lot happen and it's taken a toll on my family and I quite a bit.

So yeah...my goal is to post 3 articles a week, I'm gonna restart my 30 Day Makeup Challenge, start swatching and showing off palettes, posting more looks, and over all being a lot more active here, on YouTube, and Beautylish.

So hopefully this reboot goes well. I'm gonna start on a super clean slate on Sunday as its the 1st. :D

Heading off to college? Some helpful advice.

Heading off to college? Some helpful advice.

I was super excited my freshman year of college, I was away from home for the very first time, new people, new place, and it was going to be a whole new experience. Now I didn’t stay at my first school due to personal choice and transferred out, but I’m still glad that I went as from the experience I gained nuggets of knowledge that I was able to pass along to my friend still in high school. Some are silly, others are a bit more serious, but helpful in the end! I decided seeing how August is coming about it would be wise to go ahead and share these nuggets with the people of the interwebs.

1.       Bring extra clothes hangers
·         This probably sounds super random, but I cannot tell you just how many clothes hangers I gave out throughout the year. I just brought extra for good measure, but I ended up giving a good ¾ of the packs I bought away because people needed them so badly.
2.       NEVER BUY YOUR BOOKS FROM THE BOOK STORE
·          I cannot stress this enough. A lot of freshman think that they have to get their books for that first year from the bookstore. No, this is a lie. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT do it. The bookstore over charges and rips students off for books horribly, doesn’t matter what school you attend. There are PLENTY of online resources to help the book buying process be cheaper and easier.

·         My absolute all time favorite website for textbooks is slugbooks.com. You put in the book ISBN and it pulls a list of whos selling, renting, and has e-books for the books and for what prices. The sellers include Amazon, eBay, chegg, and many many more. My book for child psychology is $180 at the bookstore. I got it for $12 using slugbooks.

·         If your class has a bundle pack for the books you can email the teacher and ask for the ISBN’s for all the different books and enter them in that way, I have yet to have a teacher that hasn’t given it to me.

3.       NEVER SELL YOUR BOOKS TO THE BOOKSTORE
·         That same book you buy from them for $180 they will try to give you $35 for. Don’t do it. Use Half.com’s textbook buy back or even Amazon, but DO NOT go to the bookstore. Heck, see if another student will buy it from you, which leads me to my next point.
4.       If your school has a student facebook group, join it.
·         When I was at ODU someone had a group called ODU Freshman and a lot of freshman joined, as well as upperclassmen. Advise was given here about teachers, text books, people could ask for help, parties were posted, rides were found, over all it was really helpful. Students often sold and bought books over the page when they were done with them. So while you may not be  the social networking type, it’s something to consider.
5.       Ratemyprofessor.com can be your best friend
·         Seriously. The website has a list of teachers based off of school and rates them on how good or bad they are. So if you need to have a really good math teacher (like me because I suck at math) or want a challenging literature teacher this website will tell you who’s wonderful and who kicks rocks. It also gives a hotness rating for the teacher. If you’re into that sort of thing.
6.       The clinic always has free condoms
·         Or at least at most schools. And I know this may seem like a random point, but a lot of girls and guys don’t know this and it is IMPORTANT.  There is no point in putting yourself out there and risking pregnancy and diseases when you don’t have to. And if the guy tries to tell you ‘Oh I don’t have one’ you better tell him to go get one or pull one out of a drawer somewhere. My boyfriend was 3 hours away, but I kept condoms in my drawer for when he did visit just in case. It is better to be safe than sorry. By no means am I trying to promote sex here, but I’m saying if you are going to do it be safe AND smart about it.
7.       See what your school has to offer for transportation
·         If we went to the student transportation office (or what ever it was called) at ODU and showed them our student ID we would receive a green transportation pass. With it we could catch the bus, ferry, and rail system for free. Now it didn’t include Amtrack or anything, but it was enough to get it from one place to another and venture out to explore. Now not every school offers this, but it doesn’t hurt to see if it does.
8.       Don’t be afraid to check out the clubs
·         It is very easy to feel lonely if you aren’t on a sports team or you’re from out of the area. And if you’re an introvert? The difficulty level just went up by like 100. Because a lot of people already have pre-formed friendships and cliques that can easily make any newcomer feel left out, but clubs can be a great help. I attended the anime club when I went to ODU, loathed the way it was ran but I did meet two super good friends there that one of which I still talk to even though I’m back in Northern VA. Clubs can be a great way to meet new people and try new things, so don’t be afraid to attend one!
9.       Don’t be afraid to try new things, but stay true to yourself
·         College is when you get out and learn who you are, but don’t let it change who you are. Don’t jeopardize your morals and what you believe in for other people, ever. If my roommate did something I didn’t like or didn’t want to be mixed up in, I just left. I will not be guilty association for anybody. Nor will I be just plain guilty for doing something I shouldn’t have been doing and wouldn’t normally do in the first place.
10.   Call home

·         If you have a good relationship with your parents or whoever you live with (and I do mean if), call home, especially if you’re homesick. It’s ok to miss home or the sound of your moms voice, chances are thy miss you to. But again, this is a big IF. I called my mom every week and she called me, but I never called my dad at all nor did he call me and I was a-ok with that.

Mortal Kombat Inspired Look

Collage made by Crisel D on Beautylish
So on Beautylish a few ladies came up with the idea to do makeup challenges as it's been rather dead up there lately. Carmela C came up with the idea, or she was the first one to post anyway, doing makeup challenges. The first one? Mortal Kombat! The idea was to do makeup and cosplay (or costume for those unfamiliar with cosplay) but some of us did just the makeup only (like me!)

Carmela C did the first look, Paige M did the second look, Velen did Syndel, Crisel D did Tanya, I'm unsure who did Scorpin, and I attempted to do Jade from the series.
I'm a little mad as I reallllllllly wanted to do a gold eyeliner with this to get the gold in her mask and outfit but I didn't have any nor could I find my MAC Fix+ spray to try and make some. (ノಠ益ಠ)ノBut all and all I'm happy with the look for what I had to work with. I used my Coastal Scents 252 Palette for all of the colors in the look and my Hard Candy Eyeliner.
